In the following pages of this article, I will cover a branch of security which is which very current given the latest developments in the geopolitical framework; more specifically I will discuss about its role as a primary factor in enhancing the EU-Türkiye security relations.

East Mediterranean Program - Security Workshop

The ‘Security in East Mediterranean’ Workshop, the first event within the scope of the East Mediterranean Program initiated by the TASAM National Defence and Security Institute and the Near East South Asia Strategic Studies Center (NESA) affiliated to the US Ministry of Defense, is held at Sheraton Istanbul City Center on 17-19 July 2023 with institutional participation of invited official and civil think tanks from the countries of the region.
Wars have been going on since the first humanity and gained new dimensions in the last century fed by different objects. As the aerospace and space race increased in the bipolar world, whose tensions increased during the Cold War period, it has become clear that the unpredictable works on rocket technology in the coming years will be at the center of the power focus.
From the understanding of security in the past, which focused only on military threats from the Cold War period, which prioritized the security of states; in addition to the state actor, there is a transformation towards a new security understanding that deepens and expands in the political, economic, social and technological fields, in which individuals, groups and non-state organizations are now participating as a security threat.
We have seen strong Muslim states destabilized, we have seen the UN Security Council role under the chapter seven of the charter undermined by the notion of so called “Coalitions of the Willing“. We have seen extension of out of area operations of NATO resulting in aggravation of regional conflicts as reflected in the recent Afghanistan crisis.
The United States as the most active actor of international relations and international security in the last century, those primarily over Atlantic oriented and it is now dominantly over pacific oriented. This reflects tectonic changes that have been taking place in world affairs international relations, international security, business development and many aspects of security.
Türkiye faced multiple and differentiated terrorist threats in 2015 and 2016. They have dared to reach their separatist, extremist and destructive targets such as PKK, DAESH and DHKP-C. I would also like to express that the FETO coup supports them and gives life-blood. In a period of operational intensity against terrorist organizations, FETÖ both fed other terrorist organizations and did not stay away from targeting our state.
It is seen that the economic center of gravity of the world has shifted towards Asia since the beginning of the 2000s, when China entered the World Trade Organization. We observe that the Asia Pacific region showed a faster recovery after the Kovid-19 crisis compared to other regions and accelerated the shift of the center of gravity.
Unfortunately, in the past few years we have had the opportunity make sure that, despite strong development, people are still vulnerable, and humanity is going through difficult periods in which wise strategic decisions are needed, so that progress does not stop, so that cooperation continues, the relations between the states become deeper.
This study will evaluate the effect of the Russia-Ukraine war on the energy security of European countries. In the study, the energy relations of Russia and Europe before the Russia-Ukraine war and the dependence of European countries on Russian energy, the attitude of Europe during the war and the measures taken for energy security and energy supply will be evaluated and Russia's energy security policies will be emphasized.
